Geetanjali Dance Classes is not just an ordinary dance class where students come in and learn dance. Geetanjali Singh believes that the classes should be a place where students incorporate dance into their being and their daily life and to that end we conduct two hugely popular and much-awaited annual events - Srijan and Guru Pranaam Utsav.

Srijan

"Creation...The process of bringing something into existence. "

Srijan, our annual dance festival is held in the month of January. The event was conceptualised to provide a stage, a platform for students to showcase their year-long learnings. The event is cherished not only the students, but their parents also look forward to it every year. The time leading upto the event - the planning, the dress trials, the practice sessions and the grand practice the day before the show have been instrumental in creating some beautiful memories for all of us.

The Mother's of the students also participate with equal Enthusiasm. This event is also where the senior students not just perform on stage - their managerial skills are also brought to the fore. From item planning and music setting to stage lighting and decorations and from invitations to seating arrangements, they look after it all under the guidance of their revered Guruji.

Being theme-based, Srijan is always very special and unique each year. Amongst the several themes that we have performed on, are dance ballets on ‘Dashavatara’, ‘Ritu’, ‘Ganesh Utsav’, ’Sufi’, ‘Rajasthani Maand’, ‘Shiv Tandava’, ‘Kavitta Sangraha’ and ‘Devi’.

Guru Pranaam Utsav

"A two part annual event, the Guru Pranaam Utsav celebrates and deepens the intrinsic bond between the Guru and her Shishya."

Held in the month of Aashaadha, the first part of the Utsav is the stage programme, where the students perform on stage as a way of paying tribute to their Guru. This programme is organised exclusively by the students for their Guru.

The second part of the Utsav is when the students pay obeisance to their Guru. The beautiful, traditional puja performed on this day is Dr. Geetanjali Singh’s way of carrying forward the Guru Shishya tradition. The Guru and Shishya tie kalaava on each other’s wrist signifying the life-long bond between them. The ghungroos are also worshipped on this day and the Guru traditionally gives a prasad of gud-chana to the shishya - symbolically telling the student to incorporate the sweetness of the gud and the vigour of the chana into her dance.
